Dalot set for Man U return after Milan flop

Diogo Dalot signed for AC Milan on a season-long loan from Manchester United last summer, with the Italian giants having the option to sign him permanently.

However, after another poor performance by the young full-back, it seems unlikely that will happen.

Dalot, who was signed by Jose Mourinho during his time at Old Trafford, never really got going at United and it was hoped his move to the San Siro would kick-start his career.

But after 22 league games, Dalot has played just nine times with just five starts.

The latest start came in a poor 2-0 defeat against mid-table side Spezia.

He was frequently caught out of position as Spezia tested the Milan goal throughout the game.

For the first goal, he was forced to drift inside after Theo Hernandez made a run up the field, but failed to note the gap left behind him, and stood motionless as Matteo Ricci glided past him and squared for Giulio Maggiore to tap home.

Dalot’s performance was torn to shreds by members of Italian media, with few hiding their disappointment in the defender.

Sky Italia pundit Stefano De Grandis said, via SportWitness : “Riccardo Saponara dominated Dalot, for me he was the worst of Milan.”

Milan News, who were doing player ratings for the game, gave him just 4/10; the lowest of any player on the pitch despite no player receiving higher than 6.
