Daryl Dike injury worries West Brom to bring in Carroll

 

West Brom are full of lamentations following injury to their Nigeria born American Daryl Dike. West Brom signed Dike in January but unfortunately has been ruled out until after the March international break with a hamstring problem.

The situation is forcing the club to seek a replacement on loan and contact has already been made with free agent Andy Carroll who is set to undergo medical at West Brom.

The 33-year-old appears to be signing a contract with the Baggies until the end of the season, according to the athletic.

The former Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham forward is a free agent after a short-term contract with Reading expired earlier this month.

Dike, 21, on his part sustained the injury during the club’s 3-0 win over Peterborough on Saturday and is likely to rule him out of no fewer than 11 games.

“It’s a bad hit for us. We need to deal with another challenging situation, for him especially,” head coach Valerien Ismael said on Tuesday.

“We will start the rehab now and if everything goes well he will be available after the international break in March.”

The news could hardly have come at a worse time for the United States international, particularly given his nation’s vital World Cup qualifiers in March.

It was just his second appearance for West Brom since he was signed for £7 million from Major League Soccer outfit Orlando City, following a successful loan spell in the Championship with Barnsley.

Dike underwent a scan on Monday with the results revealing that he was set to miss several weeks.

The striker arrived at the club on January 1 and was West Brom’s top transfer target. He made his debut ​​for the club as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat by Queen’s Park Rangers, before he was handed his first start at The Hawthorns.

On whether West Brom might now sign a replacement on loan, Ismael said: “It’s clear that we need to assess the situation again and see exactly what we can get in the market.

His sister, Courtney, was capped by Nigeria and made two appearances at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. He is the cousin of Nigeria international striker Emmanuel Emenike.
