Denmark v Belgium: What the stats say ahead Euro 2020 clash
Denmark and Belgium’s only previous meeting at a major tournament was in the group stages of Euro 1984. Denmark won 3-2 after having been 2-0 down, one of only six times a two-goal deficit has been overcome in a win at the tournament.
The only goalless draw between Denmark and Belgium came in their first ever meeting, in April 1922. Since then, their 14 encounters have produced 52 goals, an average of 3.7 goals per game.
Belgium are looking to register three consecutive victories against Denmark for the first time in their history, after winning 4-2 in November 2020 and 2-0 in September 2020 in the UEFA Nations League. Belgium are unbeaten in three against Denmark (W2 D1), with their last such defeat coming in September 1995 (1-3).
Belgium have won four of their last five matches at the European Championships (L1), as many as they had won across their first 13 games in the competition (W4 D2 L7).
Belgium have won seven matches under Roberto Martínez at the European Championships and World Cup finals combined – only Guy Thys (8) has recorded more such wins with the Red Devils.

Indeed, Denmark’s 0-1 loss to Finland was the first time they had failed to net in a group stage game in the competition since 2004 versus Italy (0-0).
Belgium have lost just one of their last 24 matches in all competitions, winning on 20 occasions in the process (D3). Indeed, Belgium are unbeaten in each of their last 10 matches, picking up eight wins (D2).
Romelu Lukaku (2020 and 2016) is only the second Belgium player to score in at least two different European Championships, after Jan Ceulemans in 1980 and 1984. In fact, his total of nine goals at major tournaments (World Cup + Euros) is more than any other Belgian in history.

Romelu Lukaku has been directly involved in 26 goals in his 19 games for Belgium since the end of the 2018 World Cup (22 goals, 4 assists). Indeed, during this run Lukaku has only failed to score or assist in three of those 19 appearances, one of which came against Denmark in September 2020.
Dries Mertens could make his 100th appearance for the Belgium national team in this fixture, and would become the fifth player to reach this milestone, alongside Jan Vertonghen, Axel Witsel, Toby Alderweireld and Eden Hazard.
