Nigerian pair to be crowned Belgian champs with Club Brugge

Nigerian pair Emmanuel Dennis and David Okereke are set to be crowned  Belgian Jupiler League champions with the football season is officially over after the country suspended sport until after July 31.

The measure covers all professional sport leagues, including the Belgian Pro League, whose season was already suspended.

“The working group set up by the Pro League to study the sporting and financial consequences of the coronavirus crisis will be presented to the clubs at the general meeting on May 15,” a statement from the Pro League said.

On April 2, the administrative board of the Pro League recommended that the season be cancelled, but the final decision was delayed.

Under the administrative board’s proposal, league leaders Club Brugge would be crowned champions and qualify for next season’s Champions League, alongside second-placed Gent.

Charleroi, Royal Antwerp and Standard Liege would qualify for the Europa League.
