Don’t interfere in Rohr’s Eagles business, says Amokachi

Former national team assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi, has warned Nigerians not to interfere in the coaching business of Super Eagles strategist, Gernot Rohr.

The Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on sports said nobody should force Rohr against his plans for the team.

“I think about this junction, nobody should dabble into Gernot Rohr’s affairs because if he fails he would attribute his failure to the people who wrongly advised him, so let’s leave him alone to perform his duties and only him would take the blame or praise at the end of the day,”

Rohr had been at the center of controversy after releasing his list of invitees for the World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.

Former international, Victor Ikpeba, had told football-loving Nigerians to respect the decision of the coach to bring back Odion Ighalo to the Super Eagles, adding that his presence will revive the competitive spirit in the squad.

Football fans had also kicked against the exclusion of in-form Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi from the Eagles squad for the qualifiers, while retired forward Ighalo was recalled by the coach.

And a section of the Italian media had expressed its displeasure at Rohr for inviting injured Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen for Nigeria’s final World Cup qualifying matches.

Former Nigerian midfielder, Seyi Olofinjana, had revealed that the Super Eagles lacked true identity under the tutelage of Rohr.

Also, ex-Green Eagles winger, Adegoke Adelabu, had condemned the decision by Rohr to recall Saudi Arabia-based Ighalo to the Super Eagles, saying that it’s a clear indication that Nigeria is not focused in developing football.
