Don’t risk your health for AFCON, Agali warns Osimhen

Ex- international Victor Agali has warned Napoli star,  Victor Osimhen not to risk his health by honouring Nigeria’s invitation for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations outing in Cameroon.

The former Super Eagles striker advised Osimhen not to push himself out of the intensive care of physicians in charge of his health.

Osimhen who recently returned to training with Napoli declared himself ready for the tournament.

Osimhen fractured his eye socket and cheekbone in Napoli’s Serie A clash with Inter Milan in November and he underwent surgery to correct the problems.

Napoli announced that Osimhen would be sidelined for 90 days which automatically rule him out of the tournament, but he made a dramatic recovery ahead of schedule and has been training with a special face mask.

Speaking on ‘The Sports Breakfast Show’ on Brila FM, Agali has now advised the 22-year-old to wait for the doctors to declare him fit, because football is beyond the AFCON.

“It’s a good thing, it’s positive from him and I appreciate what he is doing but he should be cautious because football is beyond 2021 AFCON,” he said.

“He should wait for the doctors to declare him fit, people like us have made that mistake because we were anxious to do something, to satisfy lots of people and we paid for it so he should be careful. He should stay quiet and trust the experts to decide for him.” He said.

Osimhen finished as the top scorer with six goals during the qualifiers.
