Dortmund star set to miss Norway’s qualifier over COVID-19 row
Erling Haaland may have to sit out Norway’s opening 2022 World Cup qualifier against Gibraltar on Wednesday because of coronavirus restrictions.
Germany’s government currently requires travellers to British soil to quarantine upon their return to the country because of the risk of the UK’s COVID-19 variant.
As a result, Borussia Dortmund are reluctant to let their striker leave to play in Gibraltar – a British territory in the south of Spain.
The Norway squad, including Haaland, will gather in Marbella, Spain, on Sunday for a training camp in preparation for qualifiers against Gibraltar on Wednesday and Turkey on Saturday.
Norway will be playing their qualifier against Turkey at La Rosaleda in Malaga, Spain, because of COVID-19 restrictions in Norway.
Germany and Dortmund, though, do not want Haaland travelling across the British border into Gibraltar for that match.
