Eagles can win the World Cup–FG declares

As the 32 countries that qualified for the World Cup shape up and plot for best performance in Russia, the federal government has declared that the Super Eagles has what it takes to lift the prestigious trophy.

The Gernot Rohr tutored side  according to the FG boasts of committed players who have shown in the course of the qualifiers that they desire to make a statement at the world stage.

Special Adviser to the President Muhammadu  Buhari , Femi Adesina who made the submission in a chat with sportinglife.ng  Wednesday, maintained that the Eagles stand a good chance of replicating the impressive run they posted during the qualifiers. “”We are talking of playing seven matches and who says they can’t win,” Adesina said.

“No doubt Nigeria stands a good chance of doing very well at the World cup. In the past we had set target of qualifying for the second round but things have since changed and we have past that stage but judging from our recent performance especially in the qualifiers we should be more ambitious and aim for the sky. Nothing says we cannot go as far as we can, and even win the world cup,” he said

The presidential spokesman had earlier extended a charge to other African countries on parade in Russia to fight hard to record impressive run at  the Mundial.

Nigeria’s best outing at the Mundial was finishing at the round of 16 three times in five appearances.

Coach Rohr on Monday released a 30-man provisional with the final 23 expected to be released on June 4th. Nigeria will tackle Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in the group stage of the world cup which kicks off June 14.
