Edu convinced me to join Arsenal – Gabriel Jesus

Gabriel Jesus has revealed that technical director Edu played a key role in convincing him to join Arsenal this summer.

Jesus has hit the ground running at Arsenal since his £45m switch from Manchester City, scoring three goals in his opening two pre-season appearances.

“I’m happy to be here,” he told Sky Sports. “The way everyone has welcomed me has been amazing. They’ve made me feel at home and that’s why it’s started well on the pitch.

“Edu came to talk with me and asked me how I was feeling as a person and then after as a footballer in terms of my future plans. The conversation I had with Edu was amazing because I was so happy with the project.

“Straightaway I said ‘yes’ as I felt my path was taking me to London. I don’t want to be seen as the main man or the superstar here. I just want to play and enjoy my football.

“I come to help and to learn with the guys. There are amazing players here so I’ve come to join a club where everyone wants to win together.”

Jesus reserved special praise for his former boss Pep Guardiola a hailed him as one of the world’s ‘greatest managers’ following a successful five-and-a-half years in Manchester.

“The conversation between me and him was really good,” Jesus said of Guardiola. “I expected that because we had an amazing relationship [at Man City]. He called me when I was young in Brazil and I accepted so I came to work with him.

“He is one of the greatest managers of all time. I have a good relationship with him.”
