Emery takes responsibility for Arsenal’s draw against Southampton

Unai Emery has admitted he needs to sit up after Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Southampton, thanks to Alexandre Lacazette’s 96th-minute equaliser.

On the other hand club legend Tony Adams has urged Arsenal to follow rivals Tottenham and make a managerial change.

Former captain Adams said: ‘That was absolutely awful. I can’t remember ever seeing a side defend that badly. This coach is not improving these players. That means we need a new coach. What has happened across North London at Tottenham has to put huge pressure on this guy. The fans won’t be happy with this and what they are seeing.

The Gunners are now languishing in seventh, seven points off the top four, having won just four of their 13 league games this season. Their winless run also extended to six games in all competitions.

Arsenal’s hierarchy effectively gave Emery a warning by backing the Spaniard but calling for an improvement in results when they met club staff during the international break.

Emery said: ‘They [the club] are supporting me every day and also I have my responsibility. I know I can do better, I can take more performance with the players. I am going to try to do that.

‘We were speaking now in the dressing room with the coaches, with the club, to find a solution.

‘Now is the moment we can be disappointed, but we need to keep moving, moving to the next match.’
