Enyimba crash out of CAF Champions League

Hope of the Nigeria Premier League champions Enyimba International to reach the second round of this year’s CAF Champions League has suddenly vanished as they have crashed out of the event.

The People’s Elephants returned home with a strong hope after playing out 3-4 with the Libya side Ahli Benghazi.

Playing at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, the host dominated the proceedings but Ahli came up with a plan to shut out the attacking threats of the host.

Enyimba continued to press the Libyan side but found it extremely difficult to break down the water right defence of the away side as the first half ended goalless.

The second half resumed with the Nigerian side throwing everything forward to break the deadlock but Benghazi put in everything to nullify the threat.

The biggest chance in the second half fell to Geroge Owen in the 75th minute who fired across the goal line.

The referee added 6 minutes but the former African champions were unable to score the needed goal as they crashed out of the competition 4-3 on aggregate.
