EPL: Alexander-Arnold celebrates Liverpool’s winning goal against Fulham

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold was delighted with his contribution to the team’s latest win.

The Reds emerged victorious after a pulsating encounter against Fulham at Anfield on Sunday.

Having been in control for long periods, the Reds found themselves 3-2 down, only to quickly emerge with a 4-3 lead.

On the win, match-winner Alexander-Arnold stated: “I don’t know if I could sum it up in one word. [I’m] just delighted really. It’s big. We needed the three points obviously. With Arsenal getting the result yesterday, we just needed to try to stay in touching distance. This time of year is important, the games come thick and fast and if you can pick up momentum and get through the Christmas [and] January period with a lot of wins then you come out and go into February and March in a good position, so this isn’t the right time to be dropping any points, especially at home. It was a very proud moment for me and a good finish as well, to be fair.”

He added on competing with Dominik Szoboszlai for free-kicks: “In fairness, he knows that’s my preferred side. I prefer going that side and using the wall as a guide to get round, but it was a little bit outside the goal frame. It was just get it on target, see what I can do and that’s what I did. I’ve been told it’s been chalked off as an own goal now so I’m a bit gutted. It was a good strike of the ball and good to be involved in the goal in any way I can.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for his match winner Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The right-back scored a stunning goal to help his team claim a 4-3 win over Fulham at Anfield in the Premier League.

The Reds moved into second place in the table after Manchester City drew 3-3 with Tottenham later in the day.

On Alexander-Arnold, Klopp told reporters: “I’m not sure I have to say anything about that. Nobody is in doubt how highly I think about Trent. He plays here since I’m here pretty much – longer, of course, but with the first team pretty much since I’m here.

“The development is crazy. His shooting skills we knew before. It’s now a while ago, I think, that he scored with a free-kick, so it would not be bad if we could do that better – for that we need fouls around that area, we don’t have that a lot.

“He was a real leader on the pitch – that’s probably the biggest improvement, if you want. Because it was super-intense but it got kind of another push when you put him a bit more inside in that moment. He’s so often in these positions, there is no change really.

“He’s very often in half-spaces in the centre and stuff like this. So it was just really good. But he was a real leader on the pitch – that was most important.”
