EPL: Chelsea manager Tuchel earns praise from England boss Southgate

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, has earned words of praise from his England counterpart Gareth Southgate.

The Three Lions coach was speaking on the announcement of his latest England squad.

He believes that Tuchel is handling the current situation at Chelsea very well, and hopes the club can give him more support in the coming weeks.

Southgate said to reporters: “They haven’t called me [to discuss the situation]. What’s happening at Chelsea isn’t my business really but I would say football clubs will go on. Football clubs generally unless there’s gross mismanagement survive. Players come and come and managers come and go, the fans keep the consistency of the football clubs.

“Players are adaptable, they are used to change. They are used to changes of managers – certainly at that club. Thomas has dealt with it really well. The players have shown with their performances on the pitch, they continue to win matches, their focus seems to be good.”

He added on approving owners like Roman Abramovich: “That’s a matter for the Premier League and the government. I don’t know what those tests entail. I think it’ll be too easy to say we should have one nationality or other moving forward because some of the clubs that have found themselves in real trouble have had British owners.

“If there’s a debate beyond fit and proper, what are good owners and what aren’t and what the perception of that would. There’s a lot of reflection for all of us in what’s going on in the world at the moment in various industries. And football is a big part of that.”
