EPL: Chelsea must sign a striker to boost their campaign, says ex-England captain Shearer

Former England captain, Alan Shearer, has urged Chelsea to buy a new striker to boost their campaign in the Premier League and Europe.

Chelsea are reportedly interested in a move for Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Speaking about Thomas Tuchel’s side on Match of The Day, Shearer said: “I think they’ve made some very good signings. But, like Everton, there is no doubt that Chelsea need that [centre] forward as well.

“I know they’ve got [Armando] Broja, but it might take time for him, and in the meantime, they’ve lost [Romelu] Lukaku, they need [to bring in] a centre-forward.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel had made it clear to his top brass that he wants to see Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed.

Chelsea are in contact with Barcelona for the veteran striker, who only moved to Spain in January from Arsenal.

According to The Daily Mail, talks between Chelsea and Barcelona have begun and will continue over the next 48 hours, with the Premier League club prepared to make a formal bid.

Aubameyang played under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund for two seasons.

Tuchel is in desperate need for a new striker signing after Romelu Lukaku returned on-loan to Inter Milan and Timo Werner being sold to RB Leipzig.

However, Aubameyang is not pushing to leave, having impressed since joining from the Emirates in January.
