EPL: Don’t condemn Ronaldo yet, says Man Utd great Schmeichel

Manchester United great, Peter Schmeichel, believes there can still be a way back for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was dropped for the draw at Chelsea after leaving the stadium before the final whistle of victory over Tottenham in midweek – despite being among the substitutes.

Schmeichel told Eleven Sports: “It’s sad that we have to talk more about this Ronaldo case than the way the team plays.

“It’s been a very emotional time for him, he’s been on the bench and he always wants to play and he reacted less positively in the last game. And I’m sure he knows it wasn’t right.

“(Erik) Ten Hag punished him, he’s not here for this game [against Chelsea], but I’m sure that after this game he’ll reinstate him. And we know Cristiano, whenever it was talked about for bad reasons he came back even better and proved everyone wrong.”
