EPL: Man Utd manager Rangnick explains Maguire’s omission

Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire, was unable to feature in their Premier League defeat to Wolves on Monday due to a chest problem.

According to interim boss, Ralf Rangnick, who spoke about Maguire before kick-off, the England international suffered the injury against Burnley on Thursday.

While United did want to include Maguire in their starting lineup on Monday, Rangnick admitted the centre-back was still experiencing pain and was then left out of the squad.

“Harry received that kind of injury against Burnley that he could play all throughout the game,” said Rangnick to Sky Sports.

“But he had problems the day after. Until yesterday, we were still hopeful of him being able to play, the same with Eric Bailly, and in both cases it was just a ‘no’. Since last night, we knew all three of them [including Victor Lindelof – COVID-19 positive] were out.”
