EPL: Michael Owen makes Leicester City point as Arsenal title charge continues

Michael Owen has compared Arsenal’s current quest for the Premier League with Leicester City’s title heroics in 2015/16.

The Gunners moved four points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table at the weekend. They squeezed past Leeds United while the defending champions lost to Liverpool at Anfield.

City are still favourites to win the Premier League but Arsenal are proving themselves to be contenders to the throne with their impressive early season form. Owen believes it’s time to take the north London outfit seriously, and likened it to how the Foxes weren’t considered title challengers until very late on in that fabled campaign.

“Possibly after today people will be thinking ‘hang on, four points is a nice little cushion’,” the former Liverpool and Man United striker told Premier League Productions, via football.london.

“I cast my mind back to Leicester and it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise like the Leicester season but I do cast my mind back to when Leicester went four points clear and ‘it’s only Leicester, they won’t win it’, or whatever.

“Arsenal have got a lot more ability than that team and I do think if they continue like this for the next three, four, five games, if they continue winning, then all of a sudden people will be thinking ‘wow, they are the real deal, they are the biggest thorn in the side of Manchester City maybe’.
