EPL: We forget VAR is still a human decision, says Crystal Palace boss Vieira

Crystal Palace boss, Patrick Vieira, has said they can’t dwell on VAR mistakes because it is still a human decision.

In defeat to Chelsea last week, Thiago Silva was allowed to remain on the pitch after handling the ball.

Vieira was diplomatic when asked how he reflects on moments like that after the fact, saying: “I think when the decision has been made on the field this is what you expect: the decision to be made. After, yes, you can have a conversation, you can apologise, but it doesn’t change anything. The referee and VAR make a decision and we just have to [accept it].

“Sometimes we forget as well that VAR is still a human decision. We can sit, me and you, watching the same images and have a different opinion. Yes, VAR is there to help, but it’s still a human decision. Sometimes it’s right and sometimes it’s wrong and it’s really frustrating for us because in that situation it changes the game. But it wasn’t the case [that the decision fell Palace’s way] and we have to move on.”
