EPL: Wilfred Ndidi beats N’Golo Kante, others to one prestigious record

Super Eagles and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has emerged best ball winner in the English Premier League since marking his debut for the Foxes against Chelsea on January 14, 2017.

Renowned football statistics website Whoscored.com revealed that the Eagles combative midfielder has clocked 394 tackles to topple the likes of ex-Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye (302) as well as Chelsea’s France ace N’Golo Kante (263).

A further breakdown of the statistics released showed that Ndidi clocked 68 tackles during the 2016-2017 campaign, 138 in his first full Premier League season, 143 during the 2018-2019 campaign and has already clocked 45 tackles after nine games for Leicester City this term.

Interestingly, Ndidi  was the top tackler in the Premier League for two consecutive seasons –  2017-2018 and 2018-2019, with Foxes teammate Ricardo Pereira at 47,  the only player in the English topflight to have won more tackles than the Nigerian this campaign.

Surprisingly, despite his robust style of play the Super Eagles midfielder remains the Premier League’s best ball winner with (32) interceptions and has never been suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
