Europa: Casemiro passing surprised me, says Man Utd hero Scholes
Manchester United Treble winner, Paul Scholes, has said Casemiro surprised him in Thursday’s Europa League win at Sheriff Tiraspol.
Casemiro, a £70m summer signing from Real Madrid, was introduced at half-time for Scott McTominay as United recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Scholes said he believed Casemiro to be more of a “[ball] winner” having watched him play alongside technical maestros Toni Kroos and Luka Modric for a number of seasons and was left pleasantly surprised by his impressive range of passing – despite the 30-year-old’s impressive haul of trophies.
He said: “He surprised me a little bit with his forward passing, his range of passing.
“I thought he was more of a winner, getting the ball back in midfield. It was Kroos and Modric last year; he has more to his game and showed more of a range to his game.”
