Europa: Horrific Photo of Goalkeeper’s Injuries Emerges

Slavia Prague keeper Ondrej Kolar is set for some serious stitches after he was left with two savage cuts following a wild challenge from Rangers’ Kemar Roofe.

Kolar was coming to claim the ball in the Europa League match at Ibrox when Roofe arrived in the box with his boot dangerously high – and smashed the keeper right in face.

Roofe received an instant red card, but Kolar was left with more lasting damage. The keeper – who was instantly substituted – has two nasty cuts: one on his cheek and an incredibly deep gash on his forehead. Ouch.

To be fair to Roofe, his eyes were on the ball when the collision happened. But obviously a player must take responsibility for where his boots land – and this was incredibly reckless, as it left Kolar bleeding profusely on the pitch.

The referee brandished a red card immediately and Rangers manager Steven Gerrard could have absolutely no complaints.

Leon Balogun was then shown a red card (for a second booking rather than anything so outrageous as Roofe’s challenge) leaving Rangers 1-0 down on Thursday and up against it with nine men,

A spectacular free-kick from Nicolae Stanciu gave Slavia Prague a 2-0 lead on the night – 3-1 on aggregate – and sealed a place in the quarter-finals against the newly crowned Scottish champions.

Whether keeper Kolar will be fit to take part in the next round, given his serious facial injuries, remains to be seen
