Europa: Why I refused to speak highly of Tammy Abraham, says Roma boss Mourinho

Roma coach, Jose Mourinho, praised matchwinner Tammy Abraham after victory over Leicester City on Thursday night.

Former Chelsea striker Abraham’s goal saw Roma win 1-0 and reach the Europa Conference League final 2-1 on aggregate.

Mourinho said, “Tammy knows, I refuse to speak highly of him. Because he can do better and he knows that! He is a great player with potential to be even greater. I refuse to praise him! He needs to work this hard in every game, not just when we are up against Lazio or fighting for a European Final!”

He continued: “The lads deserve this, we have three Serie A games left to end as well as possible. We’ve had a fantastic trajectory to reach the final, we dropped points in Serie A to achieve that, but now we are in the Final and we want to win.

“Our pressing style runs risks, but we are not capable of doing it for 90 minutes. We sat deeper, transformed to a 5-3-1-1 formation, kept the lines tight with an incredible effort from the midfielders. It wasn’t easy to keep the ball without Mkhitaryan, but they worked so hard.

“It was a family, this is how I describe this team.”
