Isaac Success was surprised he did not win a foul almost at the end of the first half and possibly have his side rewarded with a penalty.
The Watford player and Nigeria international was bearing down at goal in the 45th minute but was brought down by Colombian Yerry Mina in what caught the attention of commentators Jon Champion and Daniel Higginbotham.
They both agreed that Mina deserved to be punished and by extension a penalty call for the visiting side.
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves also questioned the decision of the centre referee Kevin Friend for not awarding a penalty to Watford in the Premier League game against Everton at the Goodison Park on Monday night.
Hargreaves working as Sky Sports’ studio analyst said at half time:
“Success knew he was touched. He knew it was a foul. Javi Gracia was disappointed by the decision and rightly so.”
Mina who moved from Barcelona in the summer was on a yellow card and could have been sent off.
Success was also fouled by the same player in the 55th minute at the edge of the box but Watford’s resultant free-kick struck by former Juventus forward Roberto Pereyra could only hit the side net.
Watford would level things up from 1-0 down when Pereyra’s shot was deflected in by Seamus Coleman eight minutes later.
Seamus Coleman bundled the ball into his own net to level the scores before Abdoulaye Doucoure rose highest to give Watford a shock lead.
Just moments later, Gylfi Siguardsson saw an Everton penalty kick saved and they looked set for a disappointing defeat.
That was until Digne stepped up in the 95th minute to cause heartbreak for Watford, who had looked on course for their first win in six Premier League games.
