Spurs kept up the pressure in the second half as Eriksen added to their tally with an early goal. Sigurdsson did pull one back for Everton, but Son and Kane’s second goals finished it off for Spurs.

Son Heung-min told Sky Sports about his first goal: “It was a difficult angle, I just tried to hit the target and the goal came at a good time.

“Like Harry Kane said, we dominated from the start and created so many chances.

“We were unlucky to go 1-0 down but showed our character and mentality to come back and score six goals.

“We just have to focus on us now and go game by game. Then we will see what happens because it’s a long race.”

Everton captain Seamus Coleman on MOTD2: “From where I was it looked like a perfectly good goal from DCL and they equalised from our mishap in defence.

“We couldn’t recover. They showed their quality and they outfought us. It looked like they wanted it more which shouldn’t be the case, especially at Goodison.

“We didn’t show enough commitment. We’re 11th in the table. We need to get back on track very quickly.”
