Everton Poach Brighton’s chief Scout Sargeson

Everton have agreed a deal to appoint Brighton talent spotter Lee Sargeson in a senior recruitment role, according to reports.

The Seagulls scout has been a success on the south coast and has the expertise to revolutionise the Toffees’ recruitment – something which is very much needed.

It is believed that Sargeson’s role will be as Everton’s manager of scouting operations, with a remit to improve their transfer set-up.

As per Football Insider, Everton are yet to announce the appointment, but it is believed that there is a full agreement in place between Sargeson and the club.

Indeed, this is a much-needed improvement to their current scouting system, as they have made some very questionable signings in recent years.

Since majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri arrived at the Toffees in 2016, they have gone from consistently challenging for Europe, to becoming relegation contenders, despite spending around £600m on new players.

Indeed, they have brought in the likes of Cenk Tosun (£27m), Davy Klaassen (£24m), Fabian Delph (£8.5m), Yannick Bolasie (£28m) and Sandro Ramirez (£5.2m), who all failed to have an impact at Goodison Park.

Sargeson will be hoping to avoid having a similar record, who joins the Toffees at a time of great change within the club.

Everton have just appointed Sean Dyche as their new manager, while they are also believed to be in advanced talks to sell off a 25% stake in the club.

Sargeson will work with Everton’s director of football Kevin Thelwell, who joined them from Wolves at the start of the current campaign.
