Ex-Eagles star begins coaching course at French club Montpellier

Ex-Super Eagles forward John Utaka is set to join his former French club Montpellier for his coaching badges.

Utaka is highly regarded at Montpellier, after netting twice in a 2-1 win over Auxerre in their final game of the season to help the French side clinch their first Ligue 1 title during 2011-12 campaign.

Utaka also plied his trade with La Paillade between 2011 and 2013, making a total of 68 appearances and scored 12 goals.

According to French website, francebleu.fr, the former Nigeria international is expected to commence his coaching courses in the coming weeks for his diplomas as an educator and coach.

“Less than a month ago, several changes were made to the organisational structure of Montpellier Hérault, including the retirement of Robert Nouzaret , and the non-renewal of Laurent Robert’s contract. Today there are significant arrivals, which will be recorded,” the website wrote.

“Star striker of the club between 2011 and 2013, John Utaka (38) will join the training center in the coming weeks. The former Nigerian international will begin to pass his diplomas as an educator/coach.”

“For his part, the former defender Henri Bedimo (35), who went through the Hérault club during the same period as John Utaka, before playing also in Lyon and Marseille, will continue to develop his Academy Foot in Douala, Cameroon in partnership with the MHSC and will also become an educator within the center.”
