Experts predict baby boom as covid-19 lockdown continues

Experts believe there will be baby boom come December this year as a direct result of the on-going lockdown occasioned by the coronavirus.

With leagues suspended across the globe and offices closed men and women have been forced to remain in doors and nothing to do, experts say many will turn to sex to pass the time, sparking a new baby boom.

The experts insist that there is a ‘strong possibility’ of a baby boom in early 2021 as couples seek distraction while in lockdown.

It also comes as one of the world’s largest condom producers, Malaysian firm, Karex Berhad, was given permission to resume production – but told half of its workforce must stay home.

Speaking to The Times, Dr Sheri Jacobson, clinical director at Harley Therapy, a psychotherapy clinic in London, said: ‘There will be more contact and opportunity.

‘In this early period, staying at home might feel like a break from the norm, creating a short holiday effect.’

Other experts meanwhile warn it could be more bust than boom for some relationships.

Dr Elena Touroni, consultant psychologist and co-founder of the Chelsea Psychology Clinic in west London, told The Times it could lead to an increase in the number of divorces as well.

She said: ‘Couples will need to find a way of managing their togetherness.’

It comes as Scotland’s chief medical officer Dr Catherine Calderwood warned couples to help prevent a surge of babies around the Christmas period – a traditionally busy period for the NHS.

Research indicates that most families seldom have time to be together as members are either at work, at school or at the business front.

Experts say lockdown sure to produce baby boom come December and early 2021

The lockdown is providing opportunity for families to be together and this togetherness could either strengthen intimacy or fuel suppressed difference that could lead to altercation.   Although efforts are being made to identify a cure for the pandemic, no one is sure for certain how far the lockdown would last.

There are strong indications that the leagues which set re-opening date tentatively at April 30th may be forced to further extend the suspension unless the situation before then.
