FA Cup: De Bruyne injury ‘doesn’t look good’, says Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says the injury which forced Kevin De Bruyne off during Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea “doesn’t look good”.

City’s hopes of winning the quadruple came to an end at Wembley as Hakim Ziyech’s goal earned Chelsea a 1-0 win and booked their place in next month’s final.

Guardiola’s side were well below the best but were not helped by losing De Bruyne early in the second half to what appeared to be an ankle problem.

“I don’t know,” Guardiola said when asked about the Belgian’s problem after the game. “It doesn’t look good. He has pain.”

De Bruyne’s absence, even for a relatively brief period, would be a major blow to City’s hopes of ending the season with a treble of sorts.

The Premier League title is all-but wrapped up, but Guardiola’s men are due back at Wembley next weekend to face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup final. That game comes only days before the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.

Further down the line, De Bruyne is due to be a major part of the Belgium side that will go into this summer’s European Championships as the No1 ranked team in the world.
