Failed Eagles contract: Jose Peseiro returns to the job market

 

Portuguese coach José Vítor dos Santos Peseiro has returned to the job market after a failed romance with Nigeria.

The 61 year old former Braga and Sporting CP coach was all geared up to takeover Super Eagles job following the sacking of German tactician Gernot Rohr, but mind changing NFF made a post Nations Cup U-turn appointing former international and Barcelona ace Emmanuel Amunike as Chief Coach with Austin Eguavoen who took the team to the just concluded AFCON in Cameroon on interim capacity remaining as Technical Director.

The Glass House had initially said the Peseiro who was recommended by compatriot and widely celebrated Coach Jose Mourinho would take over the team after the Nations cup with intent to leading the Eagles to the World cup in Qatar.

Peseiro according to NFF was to have arrived the country on January 2nd to resume duty, interact with the players at their Abuja Camp for a few days before the team jetted out to Garoua but uncertainties surrounding the appointment put his trip to Nigeria on hold.

The exploit of Senegal Coach Aliou Cisse who only yesterday clinched the Nations Cup for Senegal soccer fans who reacted to the Glass House U-turn said, may have gingered the body to look inwards and jettison what some dubbed a wild goose chase in foreign coach. Peseiro who dumped his job as Venezuala coach after close to a year of nonpayment will be intensifying search for a new job following the emerging news from Nigeria.

Amuneke led the nation’s U-17 side to world cup victory in 2015.  The former Taifa Stars of Tanzania coach will begin his campaign with two legged battle against Black Stars of Ghana in the world cup qualifiers in March.
