Federation of Public Service Games commence in Minna

The 42nd edition of the Federation of Public Service Games has commenced in Minna, Niger State, with delegations from various ministries in the civil service engaging in diverse sporting activities.

The Governor of Niger state, Umar Mohammed Bago, while declaring the games open, stated that the games encompass a range of sports with participants from over 80 ministries and MDAs across federal civil servants in the country, will bring about progress to the people of Niger state.

Governor Bago, represented by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, urged participants to be exemplary ambassadors during their stay, emphasizing the state’s commitment to advancing sports for Nigeelite.

He also called on governments, individuals, and businesses across the state to invest in sports, particularly in improving facilities, for comprehensive growth in sports at local and national levels. Bago added, “Investing in sports is not only vital for development but also a key solution to various challenges the country faces.”

Governor Umar Mohammed Bago encouraged participants to perceive the Civil Service Games as more than a competition but as a platform for national unity. He underscored the importance of building friendships and a sense of togetherness among individuals from diverse backgrounds, competing in a healthy and secure environment, fostering a culture of brotherhood and sportsmanship.

Earlier, Head of Service Folashade Yemi-Esan thanked the state for hosting the games and urged the delegation to conduct themselves with utmost dignity throughout the event. She emphasized that the purpose of the games is to develop bonds among civil servants beyond the office environment.

In his remarks, former Minister of Youths and Sports Solomon Dalung commended the organizers’ efforts and encouraged them to continue with the spirit. He highlighted the unifying role of sports, stating, “Sports will bring about peace and unity in the country if properly maintained, especially the Civil Service Games, which bring people from different religions and ethnicities together for healthy competition a positive development.”
