Female Refs showcase skills at the World Cup Qatar

 

The female referees will make history at the World Cup in Qatar later this year, when a group of six will officiate matches in a major men’s tournament for the first time.

Three female referees and three assistant referees were included among the 129 referees selected by FIFA for the World Cup on Thursday.

Premier League officials Anthony Taylor and Michael Oliver are also on the list and will oversee games during the tournament which starts in November.

Salima Mukansanga of Rwanda and Yoshimi Yamashita of Japan are on the list of 36 referees

The 38-year-old has been on FIFA’s international referee list since 2009, becoming the first female referee of a Ligue 1 match in April 2019 for Amiens against Strasbourg.

Frappart was appointed to take charge of the 2019 Women’s World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands and then the men’s UEFA Super Cup match when Liverpool took on Chelsea in Istanbul in August.

In December 2020, she became the first woman to referee a men’s UEFA Champions League match when she took charge for Juventus against Dynamo Kyiv.

He broke new ground again in March 2021 when he refereed a men’s World Cup qualifier between the Netherlands and Latvia, and then was also in charge of Northern Ireland’s 4-1 win against Lithuania in September that year.
