Ferguson: Gerrard will not be tempted by Tottenham’s job

Rangers great, Barry Ferguson,  is confident manager Steven Gerrard wouldn’t be tempted by the Tottenham job.

The title-winning Rangers manager is among the bookies’ favourites to replace axed Jose Mourinho at Spurs.

Speaking on Go Radio, he said: “I personally think he’ll stay another season or two.

“He won the league this season and has a real opportunity of winning the Double, they’re in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

“They’ve still got to be respectful, they’ve still got St Johnstone and then obviously the semi-final and final.

“I think he knows he needs to get a few trophies in the bag, get that experience of winning as a manager.

“Then I think his time will come, there’s no doubt. He’s impressed me as a manager, he’s got better every season.

“The way he comes across in the media I think is first class, very honest when he gets interviewed.

“So for me he stays another couple of seasons.”

Asked if Spurs supremo Daniel Levy could lure Gerrard down south with an astronomical £200k pay packet, Rangers legend Fergie added: “No, I still think he’ll stay.

“The reason why I think he’ll stay is he’s got a Champions League opportunity, that’s the elite of football for me.

“I know he needs to get out the qualifiers but just look at his record in Europe, I’ve been really impressed with Rangers’ record in Europe, Steven Gerrard’s record in Europe.”
