Fernandes completes June award double

Bruno Fernandes has completed an impressive club double, by winning Manchester United’s Official Goal-of-the-Month competition for June.

The midfielder’s magnificent second against Brighton and Hove Albion on 30 June came out on top of a poll in the Official App, beating off stiff competition from the insouciant chip that capped Anthony Martial’s maiden club hat-trick, against Sheffield United.

Fernandes was crowned United’s Player of the Month for June on Saturday – the third time in a row he has claimed that particular prize.

Fernandes hadn’t previously won the Goal-of-the-Month competition – both of his February strikes for the Reds came from the spot, while his piledriver at Everton was seen off by Odion Ighalo’s individual effort versus LASK in the last poll we ran, in March.

However, our no.18’s volleyed effort, at the end of a lightning-quick counter-attack, at the Amex Stadium was hard to ignore. You can watch the goal in its glory above, and check out some of the key reaction below…

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “We know we’ve got pace and we wanted to counter quickly. It was a great pass by Nemanja [Matic], a great cross from Mason [Greenwood] and fantastically finished by Bruno, so I’m very, very happy with all the goals.”

Gary Neville: “The precision in this counter-attack is absolutely delightful to watch, and it’s a finish to match. What a goal!”

Rio Ferdinand, on Twitter: “Oioioi. Counter was an absolute joke! @B_Fernandes8 finitooooo!”

Andy Mitten, journalist: “Now that’s Manchester United. Maguire, magical Matic, Mason and then Fernandes finish. Sublime counter attacking goal. 3-0.”
