FIBA Africa lauds Zone 3 Women’s Basketball Qualifier

Vice President FIBA Women’s Development of Africa Zone 3, Florence Adeyanju enjoined all the participants to cooperate with the officials and channel their complain to the right authorities to have a free and fair championship.

“On behalf of the FIBA Africa Zone 3 President, Samuel Ahmadu, I want to appreciate the host of this competition, the Nigeria Customs Service for this laudable idea to host such important Championship in Nigeria. As we look forward to a hitch-free tournament, I want to enjoin all the participating teams to cooperate with the organiser and channel their complain to the right authorities.

The Chairman Local Orgianisng Committee, Samuel Onikeku expressed satisfaction over hosting of the tourney adding that the Nigeria Customs Service women’s basketball team have been prepared and ready to pick one of the tickets to represent the zone in the final round of the qualifier in Egypt.

“At the short notice we have prepared our team and we have done everything in making sure that they excel. This qualifier is just a stepping stone to Egypt. So, we hope that at the end of this championship we will be able to qualify to go and represent the zone in Egypt

He added, “This is another opportunity for Nigeria Customs Service to show that they will continuously support sports which underscore our performances in all sporting activities. The championship will bring a lot of attention to Nigeria especially from West African region.

The five-day qualifying tourney which holds at the Mo Arena Wuse Zone 5, Abuja commence on Saturday 2nd and ends Wednesday, 6th December, 2023.

The four participating teams which are: Nigeria Customs Service, MFM women’s basketball team, ASPAC of Benin Republic and Air Warriors will fight for the two Zonal tickets. The two teams from Zone 3 will join other zones in Egypt for the final phase of the qualifiers. The final qualifying tourney in Egypt will hold between 11-19 December, 2023.
