FIFA Ranking: Falcons move 8 places up Sweden top ladder

 

Super Falcons of Nigeria and 11-time AWCON champions moved up eight places from eight places from 40th to 32nd in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola women’s world ranking dished out today, Friday August 25.

The Falcons climb is not unconnected with their impressive run at the just ended World cup in Australia and New Zealand despite crashing out in the round of 16.

The Randy Waldrum tutored side were ranked the 9th best team among the 32 teams that participated at this year’s world cup.

The top 10 teams in the Women’s World Cup rankings has Champions Spain at the zenith, followed by England, Sweden, Australia, Japan, France, the Netherlands, Colombia, the USA, and Nigeria.

The remaining African ambassadors South Africa, Morocco, and Zambia finished in the 13th, 16th and 27th positions in that order. It will be the first time the Women world cup would feature 32 teams.

But in the latest FIFA ranking tournament newcomers Morocco proved to be one of the revelations where they reached the round of 16 as they jump 14 places to 58th.

Africa’s other two participants at the tournament South Africa moved up nine places to 45th and Zambia climbed to 69th.

Sweden, who finished third, sit at the top of the pile for the first time ever, dethroning the USA who dropped to third.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola women’s world ranking will be published on 15 December 2023.
