FIFA Women’s Ranking: Falcons remains Africa’s best, 38th in the World

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are still the best Africa women’s national team following the latest ranking announced by the Federation of International Football (FIFA) on Friday.

On the global stage, the Falcons are the 38th best ranked team with the United States of America retaining its number one spot.

Ghana, who will host the 2018 Africa Women’s Championship from November 17 to December 1 are second on
the continent and 47th in the world and are followed by 2016 AWCON runners up Cameroon who are third
and 49th in the world. One of the surprise moves by points was Uganda.

Nigeria who are due to defend their Africa Cup of Nations title have not been active since the AWCON qualifiers in June and the international friendly against France in March which they lost 8-0.

They were to play Spain on October 5 in a friendly, but it had to be cancelled due to traveling difficulties and logistics.

South Africa (4th in Africa, 50th in the world), Equatorial Guinea (5th in Africa, 54th in the world), Cote d’ Ivoire (6th in Africa, 69th in the world), Morocco (7th in Africa, 78th in the world), Algeria (8th in Africa, 80th in the world), Senegal (9th in Africa, 85th in the world) and Mali (10th in Africa, 89th in the world) are the remaining top ten ranked sides in Africa.

Germany, England, France, Canada, Australia, Japan, Brazil, Sweden and Netherlands make up the top ten
ranked sides in the world. A total of 161 matches were played in the period under review.

The next ranking will be released on December 7 2018.
