FIFA Women’s World Cup: Falcons kit gets top four rating

 

Nigeria may not have performed well in the last FIFA World in both the male and female categories but the nation’s kits to the Mundial ironically have remained a talking point four years and three years on respectively.

Recall that the Super Eagles jersey turned out to be an instant hit in Russia in 2018 even as the Gernot Rohr tutored and Mikel Obi captained side failed to make it beyond the first round.

The Super Eagles kits both ceremonial and playing kits became the toast of Nigerian and non-Nigerian fans who struggled to have a copy in their collection before leaving Russia.

Interestingly facts have emerged that the kits of the Super Falcons who made it to the round of 16 at the last Women World cup in France has been nominated for the best jersey of the tournament that saw the United States ladies lift the trophy after edging out Netherlands in the final.

World Soccer ruling body FIFA, Women’s World Cup verified Twitter hand indicated at the weekend that the Super Falcons home kit ranked among the top four kits, the others being that of Australia, Norway and Germany.

FIFA tweeted that the jerseys were mentioned the most during the World Cup and decided to ask fans to choose their favourite in a poll on their handle.

After the conclusion of the votes the jersey with the highest per cent will be declared the winner.

It will be recalled that the Super Falcons booked their exit from the tournament after losing 3-0 to Germany in the round of 16.

The kit features a bright green-and-white zig-zag pattern spreading across the torso and the contrasting sleeves, pay homage to the one kit worn in the mid-nineties.

Only recently the Super Eagles 1994 World cup jersey was named in the best top 50 kits of the Mundial.
