Former Super Eagles coach joins anti-racism crusade

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh is the latest of football stakeholders to join the anti-racism campaign.

The former  Fortuna Sittard sweat merchant who parted ways with the national team shortly after the 2016 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Rwanda had cause to again re-visit the ugly effect of racism on the beautiful game after watching Chelsea take on Tottenham in the EPL on Sunday.

Oliseh who heaped praises on the Blues for posting a first class performance and running away with a 2-0 win also noted the ugly side of the game no thanks to monkey chants.

“Such a Dominant exhibition of proactive football by Chelsea, vs Tottenham, epitomized by this exceptional player in Willian. Tactically & all other forms Chelsea players & staff were better in my opinion. Shame Racism showed it’s ugly face once again. Bravo Chelsea!”, he dished out shortly after the match.

Chelsea Centre back Antonio Rudiger who was the subject of racism attacks in Sunday’s clash has already appealed to Spurs management to fish out the offenders for appropriate punishment.

The chants, which have caused widespread outrage, were heard shortly after Tottenham player Son Heung-min had been was sent off for kicking Rudiger.

The referee Anthony Taylor halted play and announcements were made at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to say ‘racist behaviour among spectators is interfering with the game’.

Most stakeholders are however disappointed that in spite of worldwide condemnation racism has continued to be a major distraction in football with some suggesting life ban for offenders to serve as deterrent to others.
