Gattuso: ‘Napoli made it look easy’ with 6-0 win over Fiorentina

Gennaro Gattuso said Napoli deserve credit for ‘making it look easy’ after the Azzurri’s 6-0 win over Fiorentina and explains why he took the team out for lunch two days before the game.

Napoli beat Fiorentina 6-0 at the Stadio Maradona on Sunday.

“It looked like an easy game, but it was not easy. [David] Ospina made a great save when we were one goal up,” Gattuso told DAZN.

“The turning point was [Lorenzo] Insigne’s assist, they lost some wickedness after that. We converted every opportunity we created. We conceded some goal chances, but it was a great performance. We’ll need another one like this on Wednesday.

“It’s not easy to remain focused when you win 4-0 at half time. That’s why I raised my voice in the second half. We made so many mistakes in home games this season, we’ve reached Roma in the table, we cared so much about this game.”

Diego Demme scored Napoli’s second.

“He is an important player, last season he helped us so much when he arrived.

“We’ve scored 50 goals in 23 games, a lot. Of course sometimes we may lack balance, there are choices that must be done.

“I am happy I have players like Demme, Fabian Ruiz, [Piotr] Zielinksi, [Tiemoue] Bakayoko, players who have quality, but the balance provided by Diego [Demme] can’t be given by other players right now. The others have quality, they can give me other solutions,” Gattuso insisted.

“Zielinski can play in any role, he has so much quality, when he is fit, he can cover a big part of the pitch, if you put him close to the goal, he can be dangerous. He is a complete player who has room for improvement in terms of mentality.

Andrea Petagna provided two assist but left the pitch in the second half with an injury.

“He has a problem at his calf. He picked up a knock, like three days ago,” Gattuso revealed.

The coach took the team out for lunch two days ago.

“It’s something I decided because I felt it inside, I saw the guys were tired mentally and it was right to have a plate of pasta and a glass of wine all together and reassure them.

“It was said I was angry with the team and the team was angry with me. You’ve played football and you know sometimes there could be tension.

“It’s a big honour for me to coach these players, I know the relationship I have with these lads, regardless from the stories someone tells.”
