Gavi becomes youngest-ever player to make Spain debut

Luis Enrique has caused a surprise by naming Barcelona midfielder Gavi in Spain’s starting line-up for their Nations League semi-final against Italy on Wednesday night, which means that he will become La Roja’s youngest-ever player to make his debut.

At the age of 17 years and 62 days, Gavi will beat the record set by Angel Zubieta, who made his debut for Spain at 17 years and 284 days old back in 1936.

Gavi has also become the second-quickest player to make his senior debut in terms of first-team minutes played, as he has featured in 275 minutes in the Spanish top flight for Barcelona.

The player who beats out Gavi in this regard is Munir El Haddadi, who had played just 126 minutes for Barcelona before making his Spain debut against Macedonia.

However, it is worth noting that Spain sped up Munir’s call-up as he could also have represented Morocco.
