Genk’s Yira Sor to miss rest of the season

Belgian side Genk have confirmed their Nigerian star Yira Sor will not feature for the rest of the season following lingering groin injury leading to his undergoing surgery 

The club had hoped to recover Sor from his injury for the upcoming play-offs, but the severity of the injury means he will not be able to come back before next season.

 Sor has played 20 Pro League games this season for the side, scoring six goals and providing one assist. The Nigerian has also featured in Europe, playing four times in the Europa Conference League. The 23-year-old joined the side last January from Slavia Prague for around €6.5m and is under contract until 2027.

Genk open their Champions Play-Offs against league leaders Union St Gilloise on Monday evening. The side are battling to finish in the top four or five of the mini-group in order to have a chance of returning to European football next season.

They begin bottom of the group but are only two points off of third.

Recall that Sor made two appearances for Nigeria’s under-20’s at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
