Hamilton apologises to fans on Instagram before 2021 F1 promise

Lewis Hamilton has apologised to his fans for not being active on social media, before vowing to ‘race his heart out’ during the upcoming F1 season.

Hamilton recently signed a new one-year contract with Mercedes and he is looking to win his eighth world title when the F1 season gets underway in March.

Taking to Instagram, Hamilton wrote: “Hey guys, sorry I’ve been absent from here for a while, I’ve been focusing and preparing for the season ahead.

“I consider myself lucky to have had this time to reflect and prepare. I remain positive and excited for the season ahead but want you all to know that I’m thinking of you out there, hoping you are well.

“I miss so many of you and can’t wait to hopefully see you again soon if not in person then online. But one thing is for sure I’ll be racing my heart out for you this year!”

Hamilton is also closing in on 100 race wins and Mercedes’ team principal Toto Wolff believes the 36-year-old will continue to race beyond the end of his new deal.

Mercedes have denied that Lewis Hamilton is making two demands as part of contract negotiations

When asked if he felt Hamilton could retire at the end of the year, Wolff told GP Fans: “I think this is very much Lewis’ decision. As long as he enjoys racing, I think he is very capable of going longer.

“He develops as a driver, he looks after himself in terms of physical training and mental preparation, so I don’t think that, in terms of ability, that ends in 2021. But in the end, it is his decision.
