Here’s how Man United could line up vs Sheffield United

Manchester United will be without key midfield duo Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay for their trip to Sheffield United on Sunday, November 24, leaving options fairly thin for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

So while the Norwegian was hopeful that some of his players are returning to fitness — with Luke Shaw, Axel Tuanzebe and Nemanja Matic all in contention to feature in the matchday squad once again — he has a dilemma in midfield.

The Blades will provide a tough test for United. Chris Wilder’s side currently sit two places and one point better off than Solskjaer’s team, so United must get their team selection right at Bramall Lane.

The pre-match thinking is United will stick with the same starting XI which saw them play so well ahead of the international break, but for variety it is worth considering a switch back to 3-5-2.

Sheffield United are solid at home in a back three, while United are poor away from home, so it might make some sense for Solskjaer to match Chris Wilder’s side like for like.

The change of formation would allow Williams and Wan-Bissaka to start in their preferred roles, while an extra centre-back would reduce the pressure on Garner’s inexperience.

James and Rashford continue to look superb as a front two operating on the counter-attack and, even though Martial is in good form, having him as an option from the bench would be another key boost.
