According to Ukranian journalist, Igor Burbas, the East European country had opened discussions with the Egyptian FA prior to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in June.

Part of the agreement was for Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah to be included in the squad to face Ukraine during the FIFA free window.

But Egypt’s early ouster from the AFCON stalled further negotiations.

“Egypt was supposed to be in place of Nigeria in the Dnipro. The UAF had an agreement with the Federation there. The contract provided for Salah’s arrival.

”There were not enough paper signatures. The Egyptians postponed it because of their participation in the AFCON. And then an early departure from the tournament, the resignation of the coach, president. End of story,” Burbas wrote on Twitter.
