How Chelsea will lineup vs Liverpool after latest injuries

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is boosted by the return of Mateo Kovacic for today’s big match with Liverpool.

The midfielder missed the opening game of the season at Brighton due to suspension after being sent off against Arsenal in last month’s FA Cup final.

The Croatian is likely to come into midfield to start alongside N’Golo Kante, with Jorginho possibly the man to drop out.

Antonio Rudiger

In defence, Lampard may look to bring in Antonio Rudiger for Andreas Christensen as the German’s pace could be handy against Liverpool’s speedy forward line.

In attack, Lampard has decisions to make around who leads the line.

Werner did well against Brighton, but Olivier Giroud is pushing to start and could be an option as his physicality can match that of Virgil van Dijk.

Starting the Frenchman would likely mean Timo Werner deployed on the left and Kai Havertz given the chance to play in his favoured No10 role.

Mason Mount could then complete the attack by playing out right as Christian Pulisic is injured.

Chelsea possible XI to face Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Kepa; James, Rudiger, Zouma, Alonso; Kante, Kovacic; Mount, Havertz, Werner; Giroud
