How Musa, 15 others gave $16,000 to Aribo, Okoye after Benin win

Super Eagles players who were part of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations bronze winning team have reached out to their colleagues who were absent in Egypt.

2019 AFCON Payment

In a series of tweets by a London based journalist Osasu Obayiuwana on Saturday, he revealed how the team led by captain Ahmed Musa rallied behind their colleagues following the failure of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay match bonuses and allowances.

The players each contributed $1,000 which came to $16,000 for  Joe Aribo, Maduka Okoye , Ramon Azeez, Emmanuel Dennis, Semiu Ajayi, Mikel Agu and Ifeanyi Anaemena who was a late replacement for Bryan Idowu after the victory against Benin Republic in Uyo.

The revelation is coming days after the team’s qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Lesotho after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) only paid $14,000 to the 16 players from the money received from the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) for the country’s AFCON participation.

“@thenff paid $14,000 each, to 16 out of the 23 @NGSuperEagles that were at #Afcon2019. They never paid any #afcon2021Q allowances to the other seven. So, after consultations with Captain @Ahmedmusa718, the 16 contributed $16k, which was given to the 7 to share. Osasu Obayiuwana@osasuo,” read the tweet.

“Do you know that the @NGSuperEagles players, coaches and staff are yet to receive their bonuses? Please ask @thenff why this is the case…

He stressed that apart from the players and officials of the teams, over 100 other persons traveled with the team to Lesotho on Saturday.

“Now, let’s talk about the trip to Maseru, from Uyo, where the players were made to travel in small seats in very uncomfortable conditions… They had to make a stopover in Luanda, because the plane didn’t have the capacity to fly directly to Maseru…

“Besides the players, over 100 people followed the team to Maseru.

“@NGSuperEagles won the game, they were told to head straight to the airport. After boarding they couldn’t take off. Why? They were kept waiting by the flotsam and jetsam (yes, the 100+) for 1 HOUR,” he tweeted
