How Remo stars stunned Enyimba in Aba

A 34th minute goal by Remo Stars Samad Kadiri was all that was needed to deny hosts Enyimba three points at the Aba Township Stadium on Wednesday in the NPFL.

It was a match the Peoples Elephant were destined to win convincingly if possession statistics were anything to go by.  The two time CAF Champions League winners dominated play with 63% possession as opposed to 37% for visiting Remo Stars but that did not translate to victory for Enyimba who will be hoping to return to winning ways when the next host Sunshine Stars on Saturday at the same venue.

The Finidi George tutored side created a number of chances in the encounter but Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole became a stumbling block to some moves that would given Enyimba and their fans something to cheer.

Enyimba head coach Finidi George said his side indeed deserved to have carried the day but for unconverted chances.

“I think if you look at the game, throughout the 90minutes we were the team that tried to win the game,”Finidi said after the game.

“I can only fault my boys in the first 25 minutes we didn’t get more aggressive. I don’t know if it was because we didn’t get a proper warming up but I think in the second half we gave our all with everything and it wasn’t possible, so we keep our heads up and think about the next match on Saturday.

“They didn’t play in the second half apart from the long balls they used, if we converted the chances we created, I don’t think we would be talking about the better team.

“We will definitely come back, I will say this is just a mistake and I think the players know it.

“Normally we enter the game more aggressive in the 20 -25 minutes, we didn’t enter the game with the right attitude, I can’t really say if it’s due to the warming up but subsequently we can’t have a match without proper warming up.”
