I am ‘inspired’ by Roberto Carlos at Inter, says Carlos Augusto

New Inter signing Carlos Augusto is ready to face Monza immediately and would love to bring back some of the Brazilian flair of Roberto Carlos to San Siro. ‘I was really inspired by his way of playing.’

The transfer was completed today on loan for €4m with an option to buy for a further €7m and €4m in performance-related bonuses.

“I am very happy to be here. This is a great club, I am so pleased to play at San Siro and anxious to help my new teammates. I can’t wait to prove myself on the field,” he told Inter TV.

Carlos Augusto made a huge impact in his debut Serie A campaign, scoring six times and assisting five others.

“I am ambitious, I know that I had a great season with Monza and hope to do even better here. I hope to improve the statistics of both the goals and assists.”

Curiously, the first fixture in Serie A this weekend will see Inter take on his former club Monza.

“I have grown so much since I first came to Italy, thanks also to the people at Monza. I want to continue improving, as I know I can do even better.”

He is a Brazilian wing-back and that inevitably brings one man to mind: Roberto Carlos.

“I am Brazilian, but I also like to run and work hard for the team. My first objective is to help my teammates. We know that Ronaldo and Adriano are the most famous Brazilians to play for Inter, but in my role there was Roberto Carlos. I was really inspired by his way of playing.

“He was a phenomenon, it will be difficult to reach his level, but I want to do well.”
