I can see Messi in Salah–Wenger reveals after Liverpool cruise into final

Arsene Wenger has compared Mohamed Salah to Lionel Messi and says the Liverpool forward has become the ‘complete player’ by adding assists to his game.

Salah, 27, has taken the Premier League by storm since his move from Roma back in 2017, winning the PFA Player of the Year in his debut campaign on Merseyside before helping Liverpool lift the Champions League trophy last term.

This season, Salah has notched up nine goals and four assists in the English top fight, with the Reds on course to end their 30-year wait for a league title.

Former Arsenal manager Wenger believes Salah has become a far more generous player in recent months and used Liverpool’s Club World Cup victory over Monterrey to illustrate this point.

The Egyptian set up Naby Keita’s opening goal with an exquisite through ball in the 14th minute before Roberto Firmino sent Liverpool into the final with a late winner in Doha.

‘I like the way of his evolution,’ Wenger told beIN SPORTS in front of a beaming Jurgen Klopp ahead of Liverpool’s Club World Cup final clash with Flamengo.

‘Because he had touches last night [against Monterrey] of a playmaker. ‘He created chances around the box that are exceptional, there were things of Messi in him last night and I like that a guy who can score so many goals also becomes the guy who gives assists.
