I remain Super Eagles’ assistant coach — Finidi insists

Enyimba manager Finidi George insists he remains the assistant coach of the Super Eagles, and will be in camp for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone this June.

Finidi and Goalkeeper trainer Ike Shorunmu were absent from last game against Guinea-Bissau, igniting rumors that they have been sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation.

The NFF later cleared the air, insisting both coaches were dropped from the crew due to the Federation’s rotational policy.

During one of his recent chats with the media, revealed, he’s returning to the team.

“I’m still the first assistant to Jose Peseiro and will come next week when the camp opens for the players to come.

“And I think I’ll be there if things don’t get twisted,” Finidi told a radio show, Sports Salsa.

“But first thing’s first, let me finish this duty with Enyimba, and if things go well, I will be in camp.”

The Super Eagles will take on Sierra Leone in their next Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Jose Peseiro’s side need a point from the game to seal passage to the tournament proper.
